The New PARAMEDICs 22, 24 and 26 have no front panel controls for economy and security. All setup and operating functions are conducted from a PC running Windows 95/98/NT4 and White Windows 2 software. The computer/DSP link is generic RS-232 requiring only an industry standard cable. No outboard interface boxes are required. The RS-232 protocol and non-volatile EEPROM are new and more efficient. Transfers between the PC and ParaMedics as well as memory I/O are 50% faster. A convenient data connector is placed on the front panel and paralleled to the rear panel. Up to 250 PARAMEDICs can be daisy-chained (in any mix of models) and controlled from one PC.

Improved Input and Output Circuits and Control: The servo-balanced analog inputs and outputs are hand trimmed at the factory for matching levels. They can be operated unbalanced without a change in gain. All outputs are equipped with precision machine-wound inductors in an L-C circuit to absorb digital noise. Analog input and digital output levels can be individually adjusted in 0.5dB steps. The inputs can be linked together and selected outputs can be grouped. Linked or grouped levels are adjusted together and any offsets are maintained. The standard PARAMEDICs 22,24 and 26 are equipped with detachable Phoenix type audio connectors. XLR equipped models are available at no additional cost. Either model may be factory equipped with a set of fully balanced input transformers, output transformers, or both.

Output Levels: Individual outputs can be muted and have their polarity reversed. The 4 or 6 output levels can be assigned in up to three groups with a Master Level to control all. The Master level may also be muted.

Labeling: Name labels can be applied to all inputs, outputs, crossover sections and memories. These user assigned custom names will be displayed throughout the setup process.

Advanced Technology DSP Engine: A powerful Analog Devices' SHARC DSP with 32/40 bit floating point math delivers the raw computing power necessary to implement a complete multi-function audio processor. New discrete, 24 bit AD/DA converters sample the data at 48kHz assuring a wide dynamic range. The firmware can be updated in the field via the PC by re-flashing the unit with files downloaded from our web site.

The Filters: White Instruments has manufactured filters of all kinds for over forty-five years from a book of transfer functions that was closed in the mid 1930's. Our reputation for manufacturing audio filters that sound good and industrial filters that work is no accident. The secret is having the experience to select the appropriate transfer function and circuit topology for the task, then rendering the filter with a great deal of attention to craftsmanship and detail. This tradition is carried to our digital implementations.

The 100 available EQ filters include parametric, high-pass, low-pass, high shelving, low shelving, all-pass and symmetrical, boost/cut octave band, two-thirds octave, one-third octave and one-sixth octave. Any filter type can be placed on any of the unit's inputs and outputs. Single filters or multiple, selected filters may be copied, moved, bypassed and deleted. All filters can be adjusted on-line so that the change can be heard (and measured) in real-time. A new inverse button delivers the reciprocal of any setting, e.g. +3dB to -3dB.

A unique, time saving software feature allows the simultaneous creation of duplicate filters and their adjustment on all linked inputs and outputs. Change any parameter of one linked filter and the others will change accordingly.

Parametric: The Q of the parametric filters can be adjusted between 1/70 and 4 octaves. They are asymmetrical— engineered to be wider in boost mode and not as peaky sounding. Their center frequencies are adjusted in 1Hz steps between 20Hz and 20kHz. Amplitude is adjusted between -70 and +12dB in 0.1dB steps. Use the high-Q parametric filters to surgically remove feedback and room ringing. There are enough of them to do a thorough narrow-band tuning job.

H-P/L-P/A-P: Bandlimit your entire system or individual crossover sections (outputs) with the high-pass and low-pass filters that can have responses from 6 to 48dB/octave in 6dB steps. Their -3dB frequency is set between 20Hz and 20kHz in 1Hz steps. All-pass filters can have single or double pole characteristics and be fixed between 20Hz and 20kHz.

Shelving: Subjectively shape your program with the 6dB/octave high and low shelving filters. Their -3dB frequency can be set between 20Hz and 20kHz in 1Hz steps and their amplitude between -12dB and +12dB in 0.1dB steps. Shelving filters can also be used for CD horn correction.

Graphic Equalizer Filters: These are the symmetrical, smoothly summing, octave band and fractional octave filters that built White Instruments’ graphic equalizer reputation. They are generated from data included in the software. One filter, a group, or an entire set, can be placed on any input or output. Their frequencies are fixed on standard I.S.O. centers between 20Hz and 20kHz, and their amplitudes are adjusted between -12dB and +12dB in 0.1dB steps.

Crossover filter sections can be created on any or all outputs, and in any order. The ParaMedic 24, for example, can support one 4-way, or two 2-way, or one 3-way plus a bandlimited full range output. Individual crossover sections may be bandlimited by deploying a H-P and a L-P filter or be a simple H-P or L-P response. Their characteristics can be Butterworth, Bessel or Linkwitz-Riley and may be asymmetrical and/or mixed. Butterworth and Bessel responses may be set at 6, 12, 18, 24 and 48dB/octave. Linkwitz-Riley response steps are 12, 24 and 48dB/octave. The -3dB frequencies of any section are set between 20Hz and 20kHz in 1Hz steps.

CD horn correction is applied to any output by adding a high shelving filter. The cumulative effect of the channel’s EQ filters and crossover section can be viewed while adjusting the new shelving filter.

White Windows 2 software is like using a precision machine tool for crossover setup. Pressing the Network Sum button will display the combined crossover response including any phase issues at crossover. Plus the new ParaMedics have the ability to store your favorite crossover setups as macros (files) for recall later.

Delay has been increased to 4.5 seconds (770ms for the ParaMedic 22) that can be arbitrarily distributed to any and all inputs and outputs by simply adjusting it in 1ms or 0.021ms steps.

Use delay on the inputs to move your cluster, use the output delays to time align your loudspeakers in as small as ¼” increments.

Limiting: A digital hard or soft knee limiter with adjustable threshold and release times can be added to any and all outputs. The firmware allows linking any two or more output limiters.

blank

Multi-band Limiting: Many upscale, stand alone limiters offer multi-band limiting. That is, the program is divided into several bandpass sections for the purpose of limiting. The limiter works only on the section that approaches threshold and the other sections are left untouched.

blank

To help maintain imaging in stereo, multi-way systems limiters can now be assigned in up to three linked groups. Example: On a PARAMEDIC26 the two low sections, the two mid sections and the two high sections can be linked in a multi-band limiting application.
In a mono application bandlimited crossover sections and limiters are used on the outputs and the linking feature is left off. The limiting function will be multi-band or selective only to the crossover section that approaches threshold.

Logic Inputs & Logic Outputs: The new ParaMedics incorporate an industry first logic input so that it can receive 5V signals to change its 15 memories or 31 presets. The signal received may even be from a logic output of a different branded product (e.g. automatic mic mixer, matrix mixer, etc.). White Instruments beats AES24 to the punch to become the first product to offer true interspecies compatibility.

The logic input can also incorporate a simple contact closure switch for up to 5 preset selections. Each of the 31 logic input conditions can trigger one of the unit’s 31 logic output signals to trigger relays, light LEDs, etc., or start a chain of events in an external controller.

blank

RS-232 Remote Control: All ParaMedics can have several basic functions like input and output level changes, mute and memory and preset recall remote controlled through their RS-232 interfaces by an external controller that can be programmed to send White Instruments’ protocol through an industry standard communications port.

The Unit Summary Screen provides a quick overview to the major settings as well as instant access to all setup screens.

A Pink Noise Generator is built-into all three new models for sound system testing. When invoked, both analog inputs are disconnected from the unit and the pink noise inserted in their place. The noise level is adjustable in 1dB or 0.1dB steps over a range of -80dB to 0dB and can be switched on and off for each output making system checkout a snap!

Time Warp: The ParaMedics 22, 24 and 26 may be optionally equipped with a 7-Day real time clock called Time-Warp. Up to 70 events that recall storage memories and/or trigger logic events can be programmed. Time-Warp is Y2K compliant, leap-year aware and can automatically adjust for daylight savings time.

The Mixer is fully matrixable. Any input (with its associated filters) can be assigned to any or all outputs.
